WeeFin launches its add-in to allow Excel users to access sustainability data from their Golden Source without leaving their spreadsheet.
With a rich history spanning forty years, Microsoft Excel is now more than just software: it's an industry standard! For most finance professionals, it is the tool of choice they use on a daily basis and remains absolutely essential.
This is obviously the case for portfolio managers and ESG analysts, but these professionals also face painful difficulties when they open Excel: gathering sustainability data is a tedious process that requires multiple imports from other tools. Not only can this be extremely time-consuming, but it is also a source of errors, as multiple versions of the same data point are then used, with updates not being reflected in all tools.
To solve these problems, WeeFin has created the “WeeFin in Excel” module. This is a very easy-to-use plug-in, accessible directly from within the Excel interface. Based on the latest architecture offered by Microsoft, it provides the same security guarantees as the WeeFin platform itself.
The module allows sustainability data from the WeeFin Golden Source to be imported directly into spreadsheet cells using formulas. It provides access to three levels of data (entity, fund, and holding) and also allows data corresponding to a specific date in the history to be imported.
WeeFin in Excel also offers quick access to the Data Catalog and the list of funds in the Golden Source. This makes it very easy to find the names of indicators and funds when writing a formula to import data.
During the development of the WeeFin in Excel module, the WeeFin team found that it saved Excel users up to 87% of the time spent adding data to their spreadsheets. It also reduces the risk of errors, since data updates in the Golden Source are automatically reflected in Excel with a simple refresh of the spreadsheet.
